Intercessions for Proper 16 (Year C) 10th Sunday after Trinity: 25 August 2019

Used on 21st August 2016

Bless the Lord, O my soul and all that is within me bless his holy name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul and forget not all his benefits.

Lord we thank you for your blessing on us, your church gathered here.  We thank you that you redeem our lives and crown us with mercy and loving-kindness.  We pray that you will make your ways known to us and to all our brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the world.  Guide us continually and teach us to bear fruitful witness to your love for us and all your children.

Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.

Lord we thank you for your blessings poured out on the whole of your creation.  We thank you for the beauty we see around us, the sounds that delight us, the taste of good food and the joy of time spent with friends and family.

We pray for men, women and children throughout the world who lack what we have in plenty:

  • for the people of Syria especially remembering the children of Aleppo who have no peace or security in their lives;
  • for families throughout the world who have no homes and who lack clean water, fresh food and adequate medical equipment and supplies.
  • for refugees living in temporary shelters who hoped to find new lives but instead feel unwelcome, unwanted and forgotten.
  • for volunteer medical staff working with Medecins Sans Frontieres who risk their lives to save and treat the victims of war and terrorism.
  • for all who work to bring peace and reconciliation into places of violent conflict.

Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.

Lord we thank you for your blessings on our neighbourhoods praying especially today (for those who work as carers and community nurses and for people on holiday visiting this village and this church).  We pray too for those from our fellowship who are away on holiday at the moment that they may find rest and refreshment and return to us safely.

We pray that you will help us always to see Christ in others and to show them your compassion, mercy and great kindness that they may see Christ in us.

Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.

Lord we thank you for your blessings on all doctors and nurses whose knowledge, skill and compassion do so much to alleviate the pain and distress of illness.    We pray for all who are suffering today in body, mind or spirit especially those who are anxious about their future.

We pray for:

Let them all know your love, compassion and mercy, Lord, and bring them inner peace and healing.

Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.

Lord we thank you for the blessing of your gift to us of eternal life.
We thank you for the lives of those who have gone before us into the fullness and splendour of your presence.  We pray that we may always live in the certain hope of your promise to grant us with them a share in your eternal kingdom.

Lord, in your mercy
hear our prayer.

Lord we thank you that you hear our spoken prayers and those prayers for which we have no words.  Help us to listen and watch for your responses, to allow your will to be done in our lives and to play our part in bringing your kingdom into this world.

Merciful Father
accept these prayers
for the sake of your Son
our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
